Latin America begins at the political boundary between the United States of America and Mexico and ends at the southern tip of South America. It includes Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean islands, and South America.
The term Latin
America reflects the region's historical association with the colonial powers of
Spain and Portugal. For hundreds of years the region was controlled by the
European powers of Spain and Portugal. Today, while European control has been
eliminated the cultural influences are still evident.
