The continent of Africa covering one-fifth of the Earth's landmass is the second largest continent, second only Asia. The West coast of Africa is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, while the East cost of Africa is bordered by the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
Sub-Saharan Africa is south of the Sahara Desert and is characterized by thin pasture and scrubs which give way to savanna or grasslands. The region of Africa around the equator is home to the world's largest rain forests.
