Type of Wood Harvested
The primary species of wood
harvested for the pulp and paper and sawmilling industry are balsam fir and
black spruce. The amount is dependent on the mill processes that are in place.
The next species of significance, which serves mainly the domestic firewood
market, is white birch. However, this species is growing in stature which the
establishment of a number of hardwood and value added processing facilities to
accommodate a specialty market in the province.
